Roku is a reliable streaming device to watch media content via the internet. Running on dedicated Roku OS, it supports various popular apps related to streaming. Dedicated OS means you can’t sideload or install the unsupported apps. Among them, Kodi is one of the popular media center or player which is not downloadable on Roku streaming devices. But still, you can stream Kodi on Roku using the below methods.
How to Watch Kodi on Roku?
Since Kodi is also known for streaming copyrighted content, it is not available on Roku Channel Store. Meanwhile, there is a way to watch Kodi media content on your Roku connected TVs. With the help of Screen mirroring technology on your Roku device, you can cast the Kodi contents from your Windows or Android device with ease.
First of all, enable Screen Mirroring on your Roku to receive the contents from Android or Windows device.
Step 1: Launch your Roku and ensure that you’re signed in.
Step 2: On the home screen, navigate to Settings menu. Then, select the System settings.
Step 3: On the next screen, tap Screen mirroring mode.
Step 4: Select Screen mirroring mode and then, enable it by selecting Always allow.
Once enabled, you can start casting Kodi contents from your Android or Windows device. All you have to do is connect your Android/Windows device and Roku to the same WiFi network.
Using Android
Step 1: On your Android device, open the Settings and find the Cast menu located under the Bluetooth & device connection section. Or pull down your notification screen and tap the Screen Cast menu.
Note: Depending on your Android device, the Cast menu may be located under a different section.
Step 2: Device will search for the nearby devices. Tap your Roku device for screen mirroring.
Note: If you can’t find your Roku device, make sure to connect both devices to same network.
Step 3: Accept permission on your Roku screen and the Android device screen will appear on your TV.
Step 4: Now, launch the Kodi app and start streaming your favourite contents with the help of addons.
Using Windows
Step 1: On your Windows device, press Windows + P keys simultaneously.
Step 2: Select Connect to a wireless display menu. This option will appear only when your Roku and Windows are connected to the same WiFi network.
Step 3: Wait for Windows to detect your Roku. Once detected, select it to mirror your Windows screen.
Step 4: Once your Windows screen mirrored, launch the Kodi app and stream its contents.
Cast Kodi on Roku using iPhone or Mac
If you’re an iOS or Mac user, you’re out of luck. Both iOS and macOS devices were designed in a way that their screens can’t be screen mirrored on any devices except Apple TV, a streaming device owned by Apple. On the other hand, it is impossible to download Kodi on iPhone unless you’ve jailbroken the iOS device.
